Liability Coverage & Claims
We know moving can be stressful, and while our team is committed to providing exceptional service, unforeseen issues can occasionally arise. That’s why we offer valuation protection options—to give you peace of mind in the event of loss or damage during your move.
How Our Valuation Process Works
Before your move begins, we’ll ask you to declare a value for your belongings. This declared amount determines the level of liability we carry during your relocation. Your selection will be documented on the bill of lading—the official moving day contract.
Important: Your valuation choice must be finalized before our team begins packing or moving. Full-value coverage is not automatically included. Need help understanding your options? Click here to watch a short video explaining Replacement Value Protection.
Valuation Coverage Options for Residential Moves
We offer two main types of coverage:
Offers the highest level of coverage. If an item is lost or damaged, it will be repaired, replaced, or reimbursed at its current value.
This is the standard basic coverage at no additional cost, calculated based on the weight of the item—not its actual value.
Valuation Details by Move Type

Valuation Coverage for Storage
If your items are placed in Veteran Moving Florida storage under the basic liability plan, they are covered at 60¢ per pound per item at no extra charge. If you’ve chosen Full Replacement Value Protection, the same coverage continues during storage. This enhanced storage protection costs 15% of your selected valuation amount per month. During storage, Veteran Moving Florida remains liable as the carrier—not the warehouse—ensuring consistent protection throughout.

Items of Extraordinary Value
If you're opting for Full Replacement Value Protection, you'll need to declare any high-value items: Items (or sets) worth $5,000 or more must be listed on a Declaration of Extraordinary Value form. If these items are not listed, our liability for them will default to 60¢ per pound.
When Liability May Be Limited

Customer-Packed Boxes
Veteran Moving Florida is not responsible for the contents of boxes packed by you, as we can't verify what’s inside or how it was packed. If such a box is lost or damaged, liability is limited to $85 per box. However, boxes packed by our crew or those with visible damage are fully covered under your chosen valuation option.

Delivery to Public Storage Facilities
Our liability ends once we deliver your items to a third-party storage unit. For continued protection, we recommend storing your goods directly with Veteran Moving Florida. If using a public facility, inspect your items with the driver and document any damage in the "Exceptions" section of the inventory.

Valuation Coverage Options
When preparing for your move with Veteran Moving Florida, you’ll need to choose the level of protection for your belongings. Below are the two coverage options available:
This option provides the highest level of protection.
- Covers the repair, replacement, or full non-depreciated value of any item damaged while in our care.
- If the item cannot be repaired or replaced with an identical one, a comparable item or cash settlement will be provided based on proof of value.
- A deductible may apply depending on the coverage level selected.
✅ Ideal for customers who want full value protection for their household goods.
This is the minimum coverage required by law and is included at no additional cost.
- Provides limited protection based on the weight of the item, not its actual value.
- Reimburses at $0.60 per pound per item.
- Note: In the state of New Jersey, this amount increases to $1.00 per pound per item.
❗ This coverage may not be sufficient for high-value or fragile items.
Let’s say you have a 10-pound chair that gets damaged during the move:
- With Option 1: The chair would be repaired, replaced, or you would receive a cash settlement for the full value of the chair (minus any applicable deductible).
With Option 2: You would receive a maximum of $6.00 (10 lbs × $0.60/lb), regardless of the chair’s actual value.
